trivia night

I met the rest of the gang today: Rosalind, Ricky and Emilie. (Didier couldn't make it cos' he's ostensibly working on his damn paper that was due last Thursday. Tough luck, dude.)

Anyway, we had an awesome time at our pub. Absolutely brilliant. We had an awesome dinner, but more importantly, we took part in Trivia Nite... although we initially thought we'll play just one round. But anyway... we bested the rest of the pub 2 out of 4 rounds, and we got the highest score of the night. There were some really simple questions, like, "What was the organization formed after WWII to check the growing Soviet power?" and "Which part of Zeus's anatomy was split in half from which Athena was formed?" - these sort of questions. Really interesting ones. I liked the one about Pearl Hart (the question was what now non-existent form of transportation did she rob in 1899? Ans: stagecoach. I thought it was a wagon.). The one that really tripped all 4 of us up was "Which ferocious reptile has the most evolved brain?" We narrowed it down to either a snake or a chameleon (suggested by me). We put down chameleon eventually - after all, they have independent control of their eyes, have excellent depth perception, are able to change colors and they have prehensile tails. It would only make sense to think that their brains would have to be very evolved, right? Wrong. The answer is the damn crocodile. I didn't quite understand why, till I looked it up: crocs have a true cerebral cortex. Damn.

Anyway, each round you win, your table gets a round of free drinks. All in all, we won 3 (the last one being that we've got the highest accumulated score). We had the first round of drinks, but gave away the last two. It's Christmas after all. :)

P.S. We missed the last 2 rounds by one point: one of them was the damn stagecoach, and the other was probably something to do with Elvis.
